AI creator brand safety: the pre-publication review checklist
Review AI creator content for product accuracy, likeness permissions, disclosure and comment handling before launch. Build a practical approval process.

In this guide
AI creator brand safety starts with a practical review of what viewers will see, hear, and reasonably understand. A polished generated video can still show the wrong product, imply an unsupported result, or use source material without permission.
Use this checklist before publication. It is a production workflow, not a guarantee of legal compliance; campaign-specific questions belong with the people responsible for your brand’s policies and applicable requirements.
Check the product frame by frame
Compare the final video with approved product references. Inspect shape, size, color, packaging, logo, controls, straps, closures, and how the product behaves during motion. Check the beginning, middle, transitions, and final frame rather than relying on the thumbnail.
Reject details that imply a feature the product does not have. A bag that magically expands, a cosmetic that visibly changes skin in an invented test, or headphones with the wrong controls can alter the audience’s understanding of the offer.
Review every claim, including implied ones
Read captions, on-screen text, spoken lines, and visual comparisons together. Ask whether the content implies real use, a measured result, professional endorsement, or personal testimony. A fictional character should not be presented as evidence of an experience that never happened.
Keep an approved-claims sheet with the supporting evidence and the exact limitations. If a creator proposes a stronger claim, pause for review rather than treating it as harmless creative exaggeration.
Confirm permissions and usage boundaries
- The operator is authorized to use and license the character.
- Source footage, photographs, music, voices, and recognizable likenesses have appropriate permissions.
- The brand’s planned reposting, editing and paid distribution fit the agreement.
- The campaign does not imply an unauthorized endorsement by a real person or another brand.
- Product references and customer information are handled through approved channels.
Keep the permission record with the final asset. “It was generated with AI” does not answer who supplied the source material or what rights the brand received.
Review commercial and AI disclosures separately
A sponsorship disclosure explains the commercial relationship. An AI label explains the nature of the media where required. One does not automatically replace the other.
Review the FTC’s endorsement disclosure guidance for US-facing content, along with the publishing platform’s current requirements. For example, YouTube describes when creators should disclose realistic generated or altered content. Apply the relevant rules to the actual asset rather than assuming every use of AI has the same labeling requirement.
Check the destination and viewing experience
Verify the link, product availability, price, offer conditions, and landing page on mobile. Make captions readable and ensure important information is not hidden under platform controls. Check sound-off viewing as well as audio.
Watch for flashing effects, confusing cuts, cropped disclosures, and text that appears too briefly to read. If the post is a series, check that each standalone piece carries the information it needs.
Use a clear release gate
Record the asset version, reviewer, approval date, required disclosures, authorized destinations, and any expiry or removal conditions. Ask for explicit approval from the designated owner. After publication, confirm that the approved version and caption were used.
Keep a correction route ready if the product changes or a problem is discovered. Update or remove inaccurate content according to the campaign agreement and relevant platform process.
Build these checks into the brief and pilot plan. AIAvatars’ brand affiliate network is coming soon; preparing the review process now will make future campaigns easier to evaluate.
